Resi's Bierstube is a charming German restaurant and beer garden nestled in the heart of Chicago’s Irving Park neighborhood. This cozy spot delivers an authentic Bavarian experience with an inviting old-school beer garden vibe that invites you to savor both hearty cuisine and an impressive selection of German and Austrian beers.
The menu at Resi's is a celebration of traditional German flavors, crafted to delight every palate. Standout dishes like the Sheboygan Sausage Dinner, served with perfectly tangy Liberty Cabbage and irresistibly crispy fried potatoes, showcase the kitchen’s skill in delivering classic, comforting fare. The Chicago Style Sheboygan Sausage paired with a side of chips offers a satisfying bite that complements the rich and robust taste of their house-made sausage. For schnitzel enthusiasts, the tender Chicken Schnitzel—crisply breaded and pan-fried—is a definite must-try, served alongside buttered noodles or the potato of the day with your choice of soup or salad. Meanwhile, the Turkey Schnitzel A La Baden, topped with a luscious sour cream and mushroom gravy, elevates this beloved dish to new heights of flavor.
Resi's Bierstube offers more than just food; it’s a place where every detail enhances your experience. The cozy indoor atmosphere is adorned with nostalgic memorabilia that whisks you away to an authentic German bierstube, while the spacious and welcoming patio invites you to relax outdoors with friends. Customers like Jess have praised the patio’s ample space and charming ambiance, while Antonella Maneiro highlights the warmth of the indoor setting as the perfect backdrop to a meal of delicious brats and chicken schnitzel.
Beer aficionados will find themselves at home here, thanks to a well-curated tap list featuring German classics such as Bbk Pils from Bayerische Brauerei Kaiserslautern, Hofbrau Original Lager from Munich, the aromatic Ayinger Bavarian Pils, and the crisp Bitburger Pils. Each pour offers a clean, refreshing experience that pairs beautifully with Resi’s hearty dishes. As noted by local patrons, the beer selection — although not a strict match to menus from decades past — remains thoughtful and robust, capturing the essence of Bavarian brewing traditions. Whether you fancy a proper pilsner or a darker Kostritzer Black Lager, there's a sip here to suit every preference.
Service at Resi’s stands out as another key ingredient to its appeal. Aaron Miller’s experience reflects a friendly and attentive staff that anticipates your needs, whether refilling water glasses or suggesting another round of beer to accompany your meal. This thoughtful hospitality ensures that each visit feels personal and unhurried.
In sum, Resi’s Bierstube is more than just a restaurant; it’s a community hub for lovers of genuine German cuisine and culture. Whether escaping the hustle and bustle or seeking a lively hangout with authentic bites and brews, this welcoming establishment offers a satisfying blend of tradition, taste, and conviviality that’s hard to find elsewhere in Chicago.
When lachettes is closed, busy, or you want a patio, Resi’s is there for you. Nice selection of beers that don’t exactly match the menus from 1985.
Relaxing old school vibe great German/Austrian beer selection!
True german bar and surprisingly good kitchen!! We had the chicken schnitzel and some brats and everything was delicious. Indoor atmosphere was really cozy. Will definitely be returning
We sat on the patio which is so nice! It has so much space and various table sizes. I ordered the sausage dinner with one bratwurst and one Sheboygan. Both were delicious! I also loved the potato salad it came with. It's the best potato salad I've had in my life. It's a different style than what I'm used to but much better.
Das essen war gut! The food was really good. There were four of us and we each had something different and the were all delicious. The waitress was on top of things and was always there to fill our water or bring us another beer. The Bar itself is just that, it's an older bar, lots of memorabilia hanging but it was nice too. We enjoyed our meal, with 4 meals and steins of beer our total came to about $97.00. We will go back.
Delightful family run bar and restaurant. The spatzel is homemade and the schnitzel is delicious. It's a great little bar.
Nice restaurant with a great patio. Good to bring kids over (even if they don't have a proper kids menu, it's easy to find something they like). The beers choice is great, very diverse and the staff is nice. The food is classic German food, not over the top but nice. They forgot part of our sides that was supposed to come with our dish but brought it in a box to bring back home.
This has been our go-to place for delicious German beer and wurst-especially in the summer when their patio is open. The small space is spacious so you do not feel cramped. The inside hasn’t changed and that just adds to the charm of a neighborhood bar where you can hang. The servers are friendly and accommodating. The food is superb. The menu offers a good variety of German food. Starting with the salad that is dressed with the best tasting vinaigrette ever. You can get just about every kind of wurst you’d want. The schnitzels are freshly prepared and tasty. The goulash soup is always a hearty choice especially when Chicago winters arrive.
